About The Local Hotel

The Local Hotel turns a classic South Freo corner pub into a haven for top-tier dining, craft pints, and easygoing stays. Forget standard counter meals. The kitchen turns out seared tuna, rich gumbo bowls, and a tender lamb rump share board loaded with roast potatoes and croquettes. Frequenters drop by for pints of Single Fin Summer Ale or cold glasses of South West Chardonnay while watching the footy on the big screens—the sound stays down, so the playlist and room chatter run the room. Parents unwind over drinks while toddlers play in the dedicated gated toy area in the back. Upstairs, airy heritage rooms with sash windows offer a comfortable, budget-friendly crash pad with clean shared bathrooms along the hall.

  • Elevated Pub Fare: Skip routine counter dishes for seared tuna, gumbo, and a hearty two-person lamb rump board with croquettes.
  • Laid-Back Bar Vibe: Screens show the match on mute so background tunes and conversation carry the room over craft beers and local wine.
  • Affordable Heritage Rooms: Private heritage rooms upstairs feature vintage character and soft beds with clean shared amenities.
  • Family-Friendly Enclosure: A dedicated baby-gated toy zone lets parents catch up while little ones play safely nearby.

Reasons to Visit The Local Hotel

Why South Fremantle locals and visitors choose The Local Hotel for dining, relaxed gatherings, and characterful stays.

  • Elevated Dining Beyond Standard Pub Fare

The kitchen consistently prepares elevated meals ranging from market-fresh tuna to succulent roast lamb and craft burgers, made with quality ingredients and served promptly.

The food was superb. Wife had the Tuna, amazing quality. I had the special Gumbo; fantastic flavours.

  • Character-Rich, Value-Conscious Heritage Lodging

Upstairs accommodation delivers tidy, comfortable heritage rooms at an accessible price point with well-kept shared amenities and quick access downstairs.

The location is excellent and the room clean spacious and tidy. I'll admit the shared bathroom is a little inconvenient but the lower price reflects that. Very comfortable bed as well.

  • Family Dining with Dedicated Enclosed Play Spaces

A dedicated baby-gated play area stocked with toys allows parents to eat and socialize unhurriedly without concern for disrupting other diners.

There's a baby gated play area with heaps of toys and a couple of tables and chairs for the grownups adjacent to a regular quiet seating area.

  • Considerate, Wholesome Options for Kids

Families benefit from thoughtful children's options that provide wholesome alternatives to typical fried tavern menus.

This is honestly the only establishment I know in Australia that gives you veggie sticks when you order a kids meal.

  • Ambient Sports Viewing Without Overbearing Noise

Live sports screenings are presented with muted volume, preserving background music and an easygoing conversational setting for all guests.

No sound on TV which was ok (I listened to radio on my phone) because the ambience in the bar with music is great.

  • A Relaxed, Plant-Filled Neighborhood Setting

Thoughtfully styled seating and leafy greenery cultivate a serene, welcoming pub interior for relaxed gatherings at any time of day.

Not to mention the interior full of plants makes you feel so at peace, beautiful staff who are so kind and accommodating.

  • Proactive Delay Service Recovery

When one dinner experienced a delay, management personally stepped in with an apology and rounds of complimentary drinks.

Before you head over

Practical timing, parking, and match-day tips for your visit

  • Arrive early for the family playpen

Head to the back area around 5:00 PM to secure tables adjacent to the baby-gated playpen, making it easy to socialize while toddlers play with toys without disrupting others.

  • Park out the back

Take advantage of dedicated parking situated directly out the back of the hotel to avoid street parking stress in this bustling precinct.

  • Stream audio for match days

When watching AFL matches on the big screens, listen via your phone or radio since screens run without volume to preserve the ambient pub music.
