About Mary Street Bakery

Right in the thick of Highgate, this bustling multi-level hub turns out Perth’s most indulgent breakfast staples and artisan bakes. Up on the mezzanine, glass cases stay stacked with sourdough loaves, flaky scrolls, and caster-sugar-dusted doughnuts packed tight with salted caramel or raspberry jam. Down below, conversation hums beneath the high ceilings over batch brews and flat whites. Tables fill quickly for the house signature—buttermilk pancakes topped with crisp fried chicken, crunchy peanuts, and maple syrup—or runny eggs on chewy sourdough beside scratch-made hash browns with spicy sauce.

  • Fried Chicken & Pancakes: Buttermilk pancakes topped with crispy fried chicken, crunchy peanuts, and maple syrup anchor the sweet-meets-savory breakfast lineup.
  • Mezzanine Bakery Display: An elevated mezzanine hosts the ordering counter and bakery display, keeping takeaway pastry lines separate from the dining tables.
  • Generously Filled Doughnuts: House-fried doughrings and light, flaky pastries generously packed with fillings like tart raspberry jam and rich salted caramel.

  • Generously Filled Gourmet Doughnuts to Go

Generously stuffed gourmet doughnuts provide an indulgent, sweet payoff wrapped up to go.

The salted caramel is actually salted, no half-assed jumping on the bandwagon here, and there is A LOT of it.

  • Artisan Takeaway Breads and Specialty Loaves

House-baked specialty loaves and fresh pastries are easily boxed up for quality morning sustenance on the go.

The fruit loaf itself had hazelnut, fennel seeds, rains, figs and apricot. Delicious! Great service, and atmosphere inside the venue was buzzing.

  • Salted Caramel Filled Donut

I settle on a salted caramel filled donut to take away. Once I've got some room for it I dig in and somehow, despite my high expectations, I'm still pleasantly surprised. The donut is light and fluffy, more pastry-like than the doughy-tasting things generally served up by lesser bakeries. The salted caramel is actually salted, no half-assed jumping on the bandwagon here, and there is A LOT of it.
